Cleaning your bathroom with bleach

Cleaning your bathroom on a regular basis is of crucial importance. Wherever you are tackling such a task, you want to get rid of soap scum, mould, mildew, and hard water spots altogether. Bleach is a powerful cleaning ingredient that is able to deal with bacteria, germs, brighten surfaces and eliminate odours.
Bleach, however, is a strong chemical and whenever you are using it, you should take some safety precautions. For example, you should never pour bleach directly down the drain as it may cause damage to the pipes or septic system. Ideally, you should work with bleach in only well-ventilated areas with the fan or bathroom exhaust fan on. Keep children and pets away from the bathroom while you are cleaning with bleach and always wear gloves in order to protect your skin from getting damaged by the strong chemical.
Another important thing to keep in mind is to avoid mixing bleach with other chemicals. Bleach and ammonia, for example, is a dangerous combination that may emit dangerous gases.
Whenever it is time to clean up your bathroom, follow these tips from professional cleaners for doing it in the best and most efficient way using bleach.

Toilets

We all know that cleaning the toilet is one of the dirtiest jobs when it comes to cleaning. It is important to keep your toilet immaculate in order to maintain a healthy household. Start by spraying the outside of the bowl and giving it a good wipe. For that, you can make a bleach cleaning solution by mixing 1 tablespoon of bleach and 4 litres of hot water. You can use the rest of this mixture to clean your whole bathroom. To deep clean the inside of your toilet bowl, spray some of the solutions and wipe it away with a clean rag. Then spray around the rim, scrub it with the toilet brush and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.

Grout

You can thoroughly clean your dirty grout by using a 1:1 bleach and warm water solution. Apply the mixture to your grout and use an old toothbrush to scrub it. Keep doing that until it’s bright. When done, rinse well using warm water, then let the area air dry.

Bathroom stains

Cleaning bathroom stains around the kitchen or countertop can be made easy if you use a mixture of 1 tablespoon of bleaching powder and 4 litres of water. Apply the solution to the stained area and scrub away any tough stains and solids. For stubborn dirt, let the mixture sit for a few minutes, then use an old toothbrush or nylon bristled brush in order to scrub them away. When done, thoroughly rinse the whole area with warm water.

Bathroom rugs

Both mould and mildew love dark, damp places to grow on. The underside of your bathroom rug is the perfect place for that. Once those spread all over its surface, bad odours will emit and you may start experiencing some health issues. You want to wash your rug with ½ cup of bleaching powder added to your usual laundry detergent. For rugs made of plastic (the ones that prevent slipping on the floor or bathtub), soak in a mixture of ⅛ cup bleach to 4 litres of water. Let them sit in there for an hour, then rinse thoroughly.

Shower curtains
Similar to bathroom rugs, shower curtains are a haven for mould, mildew, and bacteria. You should give them a good cleaning once in a while to prevent that from happening. Throw them in the washing machine and add ½ cup of bleach to your usual laundry detergent. Washing your shower curtains with bleach will kill bad odours and kill mildew.

Rubbish bins
The rubbish bin in your bathroom needs a good cleaning once in a while. You will need to take care of it since the more it stays uncleaned, the more grime, bacteria, and moisture accumulate on it. Even if your bin has a lid, moisture finds itself in it. All tissues and papers that you throw in it, will cause it to be damp and make it a perfect place for mould and mildew bacteria growth. Grab a spray bottle and fill it with a mixture of 1 tablespoon of bleaching powder and 4 litres of warm water. Spray your empty bin with this solution inside and out, let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and then wipe the whole surface with a clean cloth or paper towel. Let the rubbish bin air dry.

Bath toys
Make sure you clean your bath toys at least once a month. That way you will ensure that no harmful bacteria, mould or mildew are growing all over them. Fill a bin with all your bath toys and cover them with a solution of ½ cup bleach and 4 litres of water. Let everything sit for 5-10 minutes,m rinse with hot water, then let the toys air dry.
